DETROIT – Detroit may be building its first Applebee's on the corner of 8 Mile Road and Woodward Avenue in the Gateway Marketplace near Meijer, the restaurant franchise announced Monday. Construction is scheduled to start in June, meaning the restaurant could open before year's end, said TSFR executive chairman Mark Schostak.
"TSFR is proud to expand the Applebee's brand, which is built on the concept of a neighborhood grill and bar, to the residents of this city of Detroit neighborhood," Schostak said.
The Applebee's would mark the first national casual-dining chain to be built in Detroit outside of the central business district, Schostak said. The restaurant would employ more than 100 workers.
