Papa John's Pizza Camaro recovered in Detroit

DETROIT – A classic car belonging to the founder of Papa John's Pizza, stolen overnight in Detroit, was recovered on the city's west side Monday, according to police.

The gold 1972 Camaro Z-28 was in town for the Woodward Dream Cruise.

It had appeared in several commercials for the pizza chain through the years.

The Camaro was stored inside a trailer and parked in a lot on Woodbridge Street.

The trailer disappeared sometime between midnight and 7:30 a.m.

The vehicle was once owned by John Schnatter.  He sold it in 1983 to help save his father's tavern.  He used the rest of the money to start up the successful pizza chain.

After years of searching, Schnatter found his Camero in Lousiville and repurchased it.
