Man shot, killed on Detroit’s west side; suspect detained

DETROIT – A man is dead following a shooting on Detroit’s west side Sunday morning, according to the Detroit Police Department.

Officers responded to the scene around 9:05 a.m. after receiving a call about a shooting stemming from a fight between two people on Tuller Street. When officers arrived, they found one man dead.

Investigators recovered two weapons at the scene. One person has been detained in connection with the shooting.

DPD said there is no threat to the public and that the incident was isolated.

Animal control also responded to the scene and took in three dogs.

Neighbors said they didn’t hear any gunfire and woke up to find the area swarming with police. Residents said violence is not uncommon on the block and that something needs to change.

DPD has most of the block taped off while the investigation continues. Additional details will be updated as they become available.
