Break-ins, sex assaults in Dearborn, several other cities could be related

Incidents 'believed to be related and date back a number of years,' Dearborn police say

DEARBORN, Mich. – Dearborn police think a string of home break-ins and sexual assaults in its city and several other surrounding ones could be related.

A suspected serial rapist could be at large. In a statement Friday, the department said the incidents were "believed to be related and date back a number of years."

Other cities involved in the investigation are Allen Park, Dearborn Heights, Inkster, Redford and Garden City.

Police don't have a detailed description of the intruder.

Police said the break-ins have all happened during the early morning hours, and the person entered through unlocked ground floor entryways -- such as a window.

"Our citizens must remain vigilant in securing their homes paying particular attention to first floor entry access points to include windows, doors and door walls. I strongly encourage citizens to immediately report suspicious activity to the police to allow us the opportunity to identify potential suspects," Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said.
