Dearborn school starts fund to help bury third-grader who died in shooting
Daylen Head died from self-inflicted gunshot wound, police say
DETROIT – A school in Dearborn has started a fund to help bury one of its third-grade students who died Monday.
Daylen Head, 9, died after shooting himself with a shotgun he found while in a home on Detroit's west side, police said.
Police Chief James Craig said Head was in the home with his father and two other siblings. No one else was hurt.
Police haven't said who the gun belongs to.
Head went to the Academy of Business and Technology Elementary School in Dearborn. They've set up an online fund to help his family.
"Daylen was an energetic and loving son, brother and friend. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him," the fund reads.
A vigil is planned for Daylen Saturday, Nov. 14, at 5 p.m. at 26187 W. Outer Drive in Detroit.
