Fourteen-year-old dies saving 2-year-old niece in house fire

Two-year-old Amariyana Wells is fighting for her life after being severely burned Sunday morning in a Van Buren Township.

Amariyana was one of five children and two adults who were in the home on Denton Road when the fire started. Firefighters may have been able to save her because her 14-year-old uncle Savion Robinson  helped get her close to the door.

Sadly, Robinson was the only person firefighters could not rescue. He died inside the burning house.

"It's been hard," said grandmother Cherie Wells. "We just suffered a lost so it's been hard. Really, really hard."

The girl's family is praying for a full recovery and describes Amariyana as a loving, smart girl. They say they expect it will be a long road ahead.

"We take it day by day and hopefully people will just pray for us and she'll make it out," said her father Marquett Jones. "I know she's a fighter. I know she's going to make it out of this. She's going to fight."
