He drove 90 mph drunk through a red light. Now he’ll spend decades in a Michigan prison

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 20-year-old Macomb County man will spend at least 10 years behind bars after being convicted of murder in a deadly drunk driving crash.

According to authorities, Jack Robb was driving nearly 90 mph when he blew a red light in Shelby Township on Jan. 7, 2024. Police said he was driving north on Hayes Road when he struck a westbound car on 21 Mile Road.

The driver of the car, 26-year-old Austin Southwell, was killed in the crash.

Prosecutors said Robb, who was 17 years old at the time, had drank alcohol and smoked marijuana prior to the crash.

On May 1, 2026, a jury found Robb guilty of second-degree homicide and he was remanded to jail.

Robb was sentenced Thursday, June 25, to 10-50 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections. He was also ordered to pay nearly $12,000 in restitution.
