22-year-old woman crosses into oncoming traffic, police say

CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Police are investigating a crash on Gratiot Avenue near 21 Mile Road that left six people injured Sunday.

According to the Chesterfield Township Police Department, a 22-year-old New Haven woman was driving a 2012 Ford Fiesta south on Gratiot with three young siblings in the vehicle -- ages 19, 7 and 5 -- when she crossed over into oncoming traffic.

Police said the car collided head-on with a 2013 Hyundai Accent driven by a 58-year-old Roseville woman whose 37-year-old daughter was in the car with her.

All six people involved in the crash were taken to McLaren Macomb Hospital with serious injuries.

Police said the 5-year-old was taken to Children's Hospital in Detroit in critical but stable condition.

Police continue investigating what may have caused the 22-year-old woman to cross over into oncoming traffic.
