Young mother's body found in street in Oakland County

PONTIAC, Mich. – Police are investigating a homicide in Pontiac where a young mother’s body was dumped in the middle of the street.

Shalita Hunter, of Southfield, was found dead in the middle of a quiet street in Pontiac. She was 25.

“She was found with a gunshot wound to the head in the middle of the street,” Hunter’s mother, Rita Jolly, said.

Two men were driving near North Roselawn and Maines streets when they found Hunter bleeding in the road.

“They took all of her belongings,” Hunter’s sister, Chuaita Munson, said. “If that’s what they wanted they could have left her alive and took what they wanted.”

The investigation revealed someone dumped Hunter’s body after shooting her first. It’s unclear if this was a robbery, but her car is missing.

“They need to do something please,” Jolly said. “Let us get justice because we need to know what happened and why.”

Investigators are searching for clues while Hunter’s mother deals with the death of her second child in three years.

“I don’t know how I’m going to get through this,” Jolly said. “Only by God’s grace because I’m still struggling with the grace of my son.”

Investigators said they have no concrete leads as of yet.

A GoFundMe was created to help with funeral expenses.
