Man charged with assaulting student at Canton mosque

CANTON, Mich. – A 65-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after a student was assaulted at a Mosque in the 1500 block of N. Ridge Road in Canton.

Canton police said Hobibur Rahman, of Hamtramck, turned himself in after the Canton Police Department launched an investigation Aug. 10.

Rahman is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon -- a four-year felony -- and aggravated assault -- a one-year misdemeanor.

Rahman is being held on $10,000 bail. A probable cause conference is scheduled for Aug. 26.
