DETROIT – A pregnant woman was found dead in a vacant building on Detroit's southwest side and authorities have since arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with her death.
Detroit police, along with the Melvindale Police Department, were investigating a report of a missing person Friday when they discovered the body of a woman in a vacant building.
Authorities say upon further investigation into the discovery of the woman's body, a 16-year-old boy and a 23-year-old man were taken into custody on unrelated charges.
Police later arrested the 16-year-old boy in connection with the woman's death and he is expected to be charged in her death.
Family members have identified the woman as 29-year-old Amanda Lynn Benton who was reported missing last week out of Melvindale.
Family members have confirmed Benton was 5 1/2 months pregnant at the time of her death.
A GoFundMe account has been set up by the family to help pay for the unexpected funeral expenses.
Police say the 23-year-old man is still being held on unrelated charges. No other information is available at this time.
