Amber Alert Lifted: Missing 3-year-old found safe; suspect in custody

19-year-old Michael Lee Grayson in custody

DETROIT – An Amber Alert issued Thursday morning was lifted after 3-year-old Marvie Gardner was found safe and the suspected kidnapper is in police custody.

UPDATE: Marvie Gardner has been found safe

Gardner went missing Thursday after he was last seen at a home in the 19300 block of Winston Street in Detroit. He was found at a home on Detroit's west side.

Police said it appears Michael Lee Grayson, 19, left Gardner in a vacant house on Detroit's west side and walked away from the home.

What happened

The Amber Alert was issued around 10 a.m.

Marvie's mother, Latoya Spears, woke up around 5:30 a.m. and noticed her son was gone. She told police she had friends over the previous evening, including Grayson and his wife.

Spears told police that after she went to bed, Grayson and his wife got into an argument and Grayson's wife left the home with their son. In retaliation, Grayson allegedly took Marvie for ransom.

The boy's mother found a note from the suspected kidnapper. The note reads:

"Get my baby!! Will Contact. Done Play'n Let's Play"

Stolen Plymouth Voyager found

Police said Grayson may have been driving a purple Plymouth Voyager with Michigan license plate CMB 3125. The vehicle was found on Detroit's west side.

The Voyager was stolen from a neighbor's house, according to police.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or Detroit police at 313-596-5640.
