DETROIT – A garment bag and a speaker had authorities rushing Wednesday morning to a scene near federal agency buildings in Detroit.
Authorities initially were investigating the items as two suspicious packages near federal agency buildings in Detroit. Those items have been identified as a garment bag and speaker. The scene has been cleared.
"Our Detroit Police Department’s Bomb Squad investigated the first package and determined it to be clear. It was a garment bag containing miscellaneous items. The second package was some type of electronic device. The FBI cleared that," said Detroit police Commander Elvin Barren. "We do have surveillance video of a female – appears to be carrying a baby who left the speaker device. Our joint terrorism task force will take the investigative lead on that to determine if there are any intentions of harm or some kind of prank."
Watch Barren's update:
Police had the area blocked off between the Drug Enforcement Administration and McNamara Federal buildings near Howard and 1st streets.
The Detroit Bomb Squad responded along with Homeland Security and ATF.
Authorities used a robot to investigate at least one of the items.
