Diego Fernandez charged with carrying concealed weapon, possession of marijuana

TROY, Mich. – Police said they pulled over a black 2010 Nissan Altima at 12:44 a.m. Saturday on northbound Rochester Road south of East Wattles Road for a traffic violation.

Officers said they walked up to the vehicle and saw Diego John-Anthony Fernandez, 18, of Troy, had barely rolled his windows down to talk to them.

The officers said they smelled marijuana from inside the car, and they asked Fernandez to roll the windows down further.

Police said they noticed a collapsible ASP baton with a carrying case on the passenger side floorboard and confiscated it.

Fernandez was asked to step out of the car and admitted to having some knives in his left breast pocket. A pocketknife and a double-bladed knife were taken from Fernandez's pocket.

During a search of the car, officers found a set of brass knuckles and a plastic bag of marijuana inside a blue-topped container. Police also found a marijuana grinder and a marijuana pipe.

Fernandez was arrested and charged with prohibited carrying of a concealed weapon, possession of marijuana and possession of narcotic paraphernalia.
