Witness describes brawl that took over Greektown street Saturday night

Police alerted to disturbance via Facebook

DETROIT – Police are searching for a person involved in a disturbing brawl Saturday night in Greektown.

Police said they were never called to the disturbance in the entertainment district, but they were alerted to the fight via Facebook.

Local 4 News spoke to a man who saw the whole thing unfold.

Chaos ensued when the brawl took over the street just after midnight as a person punched and kicked one man, dragged another, and then attacked and stomped on a man who was out cold.

Groups of people stood around, but not one person called police.

"At one point I thought he was dead, they had beat him so bad," a man only identified as Eugene said.

Eugene, an artist stationed in Greektown every night, was in the middle of Saturday night's brawl.

"I was right here," Eugene said. "Luckily, I'm blessed that I didn't get caught up in it, but I feel sorry for the ones that did, because they really got dogged."

Eugene, who has been on the corner since 1987, said he has never seen anything like what he witnessed.

"I was thinking, 'This is some savage stuff going on," Eugene said.

He said he hopes to never witness anything like it again.

"It mentally scars you to see this," he said.

Police said an ambulance arrived after the brawl to take the man on the curb to the hospital.

Police are working to track down the person responsible.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Detroit Police Department.
