Woman taken into custody after allegedly shooting, killing boyfriend in Macomb Township

Detectives converge on Sycamore Estates subdivision

MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 35-year-old man has died after police said his 42-year-old girlfriend shot him early Saturday in Macomb Township.

The Macomb County Sheriff's Department said deputies converged on the Sycamore Estates subdivision on the 22000 block of Saskatoon Court, near 22 Mile Road after receiving reports of shots fired.

When detectives arrived at the home, they found the man shot to death.

"Just why? It's so hard to explain it. Scary being so close to home," concerned neighbor Janet Asmar said.

The preliminary investigation shows the man arrived at his girlfriend's house in a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. It's unclear if he was invited in or forced his way in, but once inside, something went wrong. Things turned violent when the girlfriend shot and killed her lover.

"Why? I mean, was it that bad, but we don't know both stories, so we don't know her side either," Asmar said. "Could he have done something to her? Was he about to do something to her?"

They are all questions neighbors are left pondering and answers investigators hope to learn from the girlfriend.

Detectives have not said how many times she fired or if or anyone else in the house witnessed the domestic dispute. The woman's family was not talking, but they were allowed to go in the house only after investigators towed the victim's truck away.

"That's got to be really devastating and upsetting for them and do they know why," Asmar said.

The woman was brought to the Sheriff's Office as investigators try to figure what made her pull the trigger.
