3-year-old boy, father dead after being found unresponsive in Novi pool

Victims pulled from pool behind apartment complex in Novi

NOVI, Mich. – A young boy and his father are dead after being found unresponsive in a pool behind an apartment complex in Novi, police said.

The 3-year-old child and his 31-year-old father were pulled from the pool Tuesday and taken to St. John Providence Hospital, police said. They were pronounced dead before 6 p.m.

The pool, which is only 5 feet deep at its deepest point, is behind the Glens of Northville apartment complex in the 20900 block of Woodland Glen Drive.

The Novi Emergency Communications Center received a call at 4:24 p.m. after residents walking into the clubhouse saw the victims in the pool.

"A couple and their infant child were walking into the clubhouse when they saw a body floating in the pool," assistant Detroit police Chief Jerrod Hart said.

Police and firefighters arrived and tried to revive the victims before they were transported to the hospital.

Police said it doesn't appear the victims were planning to go swimming, but the boy was playing poolside. Investigators found a small tricycle and other toys.

The Oakland County Medical Examiner's Office is scheduled to examine the victims this week.
