Mother in custody after 8-month-old boy found dead at Warren Manor Apartments

8-month-old boy found dead in Warren apartment

WARREN, Mich. – Warren police investigating the death of a baby boy have arrested the child's mother.

According to police, the 8-month-old boy was found around 4:20 p.m. Thursday inside the Warren Manor Apartments in the 21000 block of Dequindre near 8 Mile Road.

Firefighters took the child to St. John Oakland Hospital, where medical officials tried to save him until 5:15 p.m., when he was pronounced dead.

Police have called the boy's death suspicious. Detectives executed a search warrant at the home and collected evidence.

The 27-year-old mother was taken into custody Thursday evening on a child abuse charge. Officials said she voluntarily went to the Warren Police Department to be interviewed by detectives. After the interview, detectives and the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office decided to arrest the woman.

"Nothing is more horrific than the loss of an infant," Warren Police Commissioner William Dwyer said. "Our office will work together with the Macomb County Prosecutor’s office on determining charges against the mother."

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday at the Oakland County Medical Examiner's Office.
