Dearborn police chase: 3 juveniles in custody after stolen minivan crashes, suspects flee on foot

Stolen minivan crashes at Warren Avenue, Maple Street

DEARBORN, Mich – Three juveniles are in custody after a police chase Wednesday night in Dearborn.

Police tried to stop a minivan that had been reported stolen in Detroit, but the juveniles inside decided to take off running after crashing the vehicle at Warren Avenue and Maple Street, just west of Schaefer Road.

"Three males hop out of the minivan and start taking off running," said witness Mohammed Hachem. "And one of them heads one way, and two of them head the other way and ran right in front of me."

Hachem recorded video of the chase on his cellphone.

"I saw the minivan just in pieces, and that's when I saw them hop out and just take off running. One of them was running so fast that he just took off his shoes," said Hachem.

The car chase ended at Warren Avenue and Maple Street where the minivan struck a Chevrolet Cobalt. The driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries and was transported to a hospital, police said.

Police said there were stolen credit cards in the stolen minivan, and they are attempting to locate the owner.

"I was really mainly worried if the other passengers were alright,' said Hachem.

He's worried about crime in the area.

"I get (police) have a tough job, I just wish they could do a little more," he said.

Three people are in custody with charges pending.
