Locations across Michigan to collect unused drugs on National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

Drugs to be collected Saturday

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is Oct. 28, 2017.

DETROIT – Multiple locations across Michigan, including 26 locations in Detroit, will be collecting unused medications Saturday during National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

Local agencies  are partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration to take unwanted, expired and unused prescription drugs to help prevent pill abuse and theft.

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, three out of four of heroin users become addicts after using prescription opioids, and prescription pills are among some of the most abused in the U.S.

The DEA and its partners have taken in over 8.1 million pounds of pills during past take-back events.

Prescription take-backs will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
