WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. – Police are investigating after a semi-truck rolled into Pine Lake, spilling fuel into the water and prompting an extensive cleanup operation.

The crash occurred on Monday (Aug. 3) along Orchard Lake Road near Pine Lake Road in West Bloomfield.

Aerial video from the scene showed the overturned semi partially submerged in the lake as emergency crews worked to contain the fuel spill and remove the vehicle.

Officials have not said what caused the truck to leave the roadway, and no information about injuries was immediately released.

Neighbors said the curve where the crash occurred has been the site of multiple accidents over the years and described speeding as an ongoing concern along that stretch of Orchard Lake Road.

Hazardous materials crews and other emergency responders spent several hours cleaning up the fuel spill and working to recover the truck from the lake.

Officials have not said how much fuel entered the water or whether the spill affected water quality.

The investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing.
