COMMERCE TOWNSHIP, Mich – Thieves broke into a Commerce Township gas station early Thursday, using a hammer to pry open a cash register and steal cash.

Authorities said the thieves broke into the Mobil Gas Station in the 3000 block of E. West Maple Road about 4:39 a.m. One male and two females were able to gain entry to the building by smashing out the front door.
The owner of the gas station told deputies that $3,163 was taken from the cash register, as well as an unknown amount of cigarette packs from a display case behind the counter.
Authorities said that the thieves were seen leaving the scene in a dark-colored, newer model Chevrolet Malibu or Impala, driven by an unknown person.
