DETROIT – One person was killed Monday in an explosion at a legal marijuana operation on Detroit's east side.
Police said some tanks filled with carbon dioxide and nitrogen that were inside the building exploded, causing the roof to collapse on top of the 37-year-old man.
The incident happened in the 11200 block of Morang Avenue.
A bomb squad is at the scene because there are 20 more tanks inside the building, and the squad wants to make sure the tanks aren't a danger to the area.
The building, which is on the corner of Morang and Somerset avenues, is a legal marijuana grow operation.
Police said two men went to check on something in the facility, but once they were inside, something caused the explosion.
It's unclear what sparked the explosion, but witnesses said the noise that rocked the block was loud.
It wasn't until one of the two men called 911 that fire crews realized someone had been killed.
Investigators are expected to be at the scene for awhile. There were no other injuries, and officials don't believe there's an immediate threat to the neighborhood.
