DETROIT – A person found in a burning car Wednesday morning in Detroit was shot to death. 

The burning SUV was found parked in a driveway about 3 a.m. on East Outer Drive near Elmdale Street.

The Detroit Fire Department responded to a 911 call about a fire. Firefighters put out the fire and found the victim dead inside. It was later determined the man had been shot to death. 

The vehicle was registered to Christopher Thompson of Eastpointe. Thompson's brother confirmed the victim was his 35-year-old sibling. He said that his brother was friends with the homeowner's son, but the homeowner said he doesn't know why he was at the home.

Thompson had a baby daughter who will turn 1-year-old in March.

Homicide detectives and arson investigators were at the scene.
