Troy homicide: Woman found dead in closet at mobile home park

Relative taken into custody

TROY, Mich. – Homicide investigators in Troy believe a woman was killed and put in a closet at the Troy Villa mobile home park near Stephenson Highway and Maple Road.

The 61-year-old woman was found in the mobile home 5:35 p.m. Wednesday after police were called for a welfare check. Investigators believe she was killed within the past couple of days.

The cause of death will be determined by the Oakland County Medical Examiner's officer after an autopsy is performed later Thursday.

Troy police said family members reported that the woman had not been seen since Monday. Officers had been trying to find her and were treating this as a missing person investigation.

The woman eventually was found dead inside the home. A relative who lives in Oak Park was taken into custody and a person who also lives at the Troy mobile home was brought in for questioning.

From Troy police:

Ultimately, officers located the missing female deceased in the residence.  There had been efforts made to conceal the body and obvious trauma was observed.  It was apparent that the female was a victim of homicide.

The investigation led to a relative of the victim who was located in Oak Park and taken into custody.  A second subject, who resides at the Shelley address was also brought in for further questioning.  The Troy Police Department is confident that there is no threat to public safety at this time.

The victim had been a resident of Troy for several years and there had been no significant law enforcement contact at the Shelly address.  Further information regarding the identity of the victim is not presently being released in order to allow ample time for additional family notifications.
