Jamie Edmonds takes tour around Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Fans arriving at racing capital of world

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – It’s opening day at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and you can feel the excitement inside the oval.

It’s a different feel than Monday. Fans have arrived, the concession stands are open and the sun is shining. It’s officially race season at the racing capital of the world.

In Tuesday's morning practice, Ed Carpenter clocked a time of 228.65 mph in one lap. He was the fastest, followed by Helio Castroneves at 228.44. That’s just a hair shy of the fastest time on race day last year. Apparently, the cool, crisp weather is a positive for the track and drivers.

The facilities are almost as impressive as the racing. The garage area is massive. Gasoline Alley is bustling. Pit Row is a pretty cool spot to be. You get to see the teams brainstorm on what to do to tweak the cars before they head back out to practice. The stands are huge. There really isn’t a bad seat in the house.
