Life and legacy of fallen officer Scott Larkins to be honored at upcoming award ceremony

Annual award ceremony taking place Wednesday

DETROIT – On Nov. 5, 1978, officer Scott Larkins and his partner officer Rick Savin were ambushed while visiting a local restaurant. During the incident both officers were shot and badly injured. Officer Larkins retired from the department in 1982 and died on March 9, 2008.

In recognition of his service, fallen officer Scott Larkins will also be honored at the upcoming Above and Beyond award ceremony. The Detroit Public Safety Foundation will host its 7th Annual Above and Beyond awards ceremony Wednesday, Nov. 6 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at MGM Grand in Detroit.

Each year during the signature event, DPSF recognizes first responders and civilians for their selfless service to the citizens of Detroit.

In May 2020, his name will be entered in the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC. The Fallen and Critically injured Officers Remembrance Committee of the Detroit Public Safety Foundation is sending the family of Scott Larkins to Washington, DC in May.

Additionally, the Fallen and Critically injured Officers Remembrance Committee of the Detroit Public Safety Foundation is adding a plaque for Larkins to the Public Safety Memorial Wall at Detroit Police Public Safety HQ. This will also happen in May.
