21-year-old man shot in broad daylight on Detroit’s west side

DETROIT – A 21-year-old man was killed Sunday after a shooting on on Detroit’s west side.

It happened at about 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of Sussex Street and Clarita Avenue, just south of Seven Mile Road.

Neighbors gathered outside Sunday afternoon to embrace each other and try to understand why a man would be shot as he sat in his car.

Police said he was sitting in the passenger seat of a Hyundai when a white Jeep pulled up. The Jeep stayed alongside the car for several minutes before about five gunshots were fired into the Hyundai. The victim was shot in the arm and chest. The Jeep sped off toward Greenfield Road.

The shooting happened in broad daylight in a neighborhood with a lot of children.

The victim was rushed to a hospital where he died.

His family said the victim was in Brighton to cheer on his cousin in a youth football game Saturday.
