WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – A winning Michigan Lottery player hung up on the lottery before he realized he wasn’t being scammed, the call was legitimate, and he actually won $100,000.

The 57-year-old man from Wayne County chose to remain anonymous. He won $100,000 after he was selected in a random Michigan Lottery giveaway drawing on Feb. 15, 2024. He won entries into the drawing by scanning non-winning 500X Money Maker tickets on the Michigan Lottery app.

“I saw an email from the Lottery saying I’d won a $100,000 prize, but I deleted it assuming it was a scam. Shortly after that, I got a call from the Lottery informing me of the prize, and I hung up still assuming it was a scam,” he said. “The next day, I got another call from the Lottery, and that’s when I realized I had really won. It was an unbelievable feeling and still feels unreal!”

He recently visited Michigan Lottery headquarters to claim his prize. He said he plans to pay his kids’ college tuition and the save the rest of the money.
