6-year-old girl dead, mother and 1-year-old injured after crash in east Detroit

1-year-old boy also injured in crash

DETROIT – A 6-year-old girl was killed and her 1-year-old bother was injured Tuesday morning in a car crash on Detroit’s east side.

The children’s 25-year-old mother was driving on Edmore Drive near 8 Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue when she lost control of her vehicle and hit a tree. Investigators do not know what caused the crash. It is under investigation.

The girl died on impact, and her brother and mother were taken to the hospital.

The boy is in stable condition and the mother is in fair condition.

A memorial has been set up at the crash site, as family and friends remember 6-year-old Myiah. They said she was loved dearly, and they can't believe she's gone.

"I was just shocked," Cheaira Walton said. "I was shaking. I couldn't believe it."

Walton is a long-time friend of Antaneisha Tisdale, so she was devastated to hear Tisdale's daughter was killed in the crash.

"It's like I've been crying all day," Walton said. "That's why I haven't gone to the hospital, because I know I'll break down."

Walton said the family celebrated Tisdale's birthday on Monday.

"She was having a celebration at her house yesterday," Walton said.

Police are trying to piece together what caused the crash.

Family and friends of Myiah said they are planning her funeral arrangements.

Vigil held for Myiah

Late Tuesday night, friends and family made their way to the spot on Edmore where Tisdsle lost control of her car and wrecked.

So many brought balloons -- pink ones -- for Myiah.

"Myiah was full of life, a beautiful outgoing little girl," said Pauletta Jones, Tisdale's aunt.

Jones was the first person to arrive Tuesday night with balloons and a little stuffed bear. Dozens of others followed her to the scene over the next  three hours.

Nobody is quite sure what made Tisdale wreck her car. All police know is she's out of surgery but unconscious. She doesn't yet know about her daughter's death.
