Burglar makes off with over $70k in jewelry heists

Burglary spree spans nearly 2 weeks across metro Detroit

DETROIT – Police throughout southeast Michigan are on the lookout for whoever is responsible for a string of jewelry heists between March 8 and March 17.

Four department stores have been hit. In three of the incidents, the suspect used a sledge hammer to break the glass and gain entry. While in the store the suspect headed directly to the jewelry counters, smashed the glass and placed thousands of dollars worth of jewelry into a large black bag that he was carrying. The suspect was in the store for less than two minutes in each incident and exits the same way that he entered.

The first burglary was committed on Friday, March 8 just before 4 p.m. at a department store located on Lohr Road in the city of Ann Arbor. The second incident took place on March 11 at 5:0 a.m. at a department store located on Racho Road in the city of Taylor. The third burglary was committed on March 16 at 3 a.m.at a store located on Telegraph Road in the city of Frenchtown. The suspects attempt was unsuccessful on Sunday, March 17 at a store located on West Road in the city of Woodhaven.
