District warns parents of unmarked school bus trying to pick up students in Ypsilanti Township

YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Van Buren Public Schools warned parents Thursday morning about an unmarked school bus trying to pick up students in Ypsilanti Township.

According to the district, the unmarked school bus was seen stopping in the West Willow neighborhood trying to pick up children.

The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office said the incident was reported at about 7:20 a.m. and tried picking students up in the area of Tyler Road and Buick Avenue. The caller told authorities something wasn't right when the bus overshot the stop.

Authorities said the districts name on the bus had been spray painted over and the driver sped off when a student didn't get on the bus.

The districted said that all of their school buses are clearly marked “Van Buren Public Schools” and warned parents not to allow their children to approach buses not marked with the district’s name.
The incident was reported to police.

Deputies are working to locate and confirm if the bus is assigned to a particular district or school, and what the driver's motives may have been.
