Las Vegas police update: Shooter's girlfriend now person of interest

All but 3 shooting victims identified; more weapons removed from Paddock's home

LAS VEGAS – Las Vegas police provided an update Tuesday on the mass shooting that left dozens of people dead and injured more than 500 others.

Las Vegas Sheriff Joseph Lombardo held a news conference at 4 p.m. Tuesday after police made several additional steps in the investigation into why Stephen Paddock opened fire on a crowd of people from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.

While the motive for the shooting is still unknown, Lombardo said Paddock's girlfriend has been named a person of interest in the investigation.

He also said police have identified all but three of the shooting victims. At least 59 people have been confirmed dead by police.

Police announced Monday that they had removed in excess of 18 firearms from Paddock's home in Mesquite, along with explosives and thousands of bullets. On Tuesday, Lombardo said police removed seven more weapons, additional ammunition and electronic devices from the home.
