“Women’s contributions to craft beer are vast and go back to the beginning of brewing, but their stories are often missing from the narrative,” states Equity and Inclusion, Director Courtney Simmons. “Our participation with Unite started as a collaboration beer and has become much more: an opportunity to create community, learn, and amplify stories from the myriad of important contributions women make every day to craft beer.”

The Michigan-based brewery states that the new beer is a Belgian Triple featuring a single hop and malt blend. This Belgian-style beer is told to have strong spice and fruit notes. Bell’s Brewery writes in their press release that the ingredients to make the specialty beer comes from two women-owned Michigan businesses.

“This beer and others like it are part of our commitment to connect what we do best: brew amazing, delicious beer with something that our industry needs to continue to strive to do,” said Bell’s Executive Vice President Carrie K. Yunker. “We need to ask whose voices and ideas are being represented in our business, then seek out and amplify underrepresented perspectives to both the brewing industry and our wider communities.”

In honor of the release of Sparkle and SMaSH, Bell’s Eccentric Cafe & General Store is hosting a “tappening” party on April 24 from 12 - 4 p.m. Beer connoisseurs can experience live entertainment in the Beer Garden and food specials that complement the Belgian Tripel. The menu includes but is not limited to, smash burgers, Unite beer-battered onion rings, dessert samplers from two women-owned businesses based out of Kalamazoo and more.

The 8% ABV beer will be available in six packs at Bell’s General Store in Kalamazoo. Click here to see where you can buy the new release.
