ROMULUS, Mich. – Police said a pickup truck was being driven recklessly when it smashed into the back of a car stopped in a traffic backup on I-94, seriously injuring the innocent driver.

The crash happened around 6:50 a.m. Thursday (Nov. 10) on westbound I-94 near I-275 in Romulus.

A Chevrolet pickup truck was heading west when it approached traffic that had stopped in the right lane to enter onto the I-275 interchange, according to authorities.

Investigators said the pickup was being driven recklessly. It rear-ended a car that had stopped in the right lane for the backup, forcing that car into the north ditch.

The driver of the car has critical injuries, police said. The pickup driver was not injured.

Officials shut down the westbound lanes of I-94 at Wayne Road.

The investigation is ongoing.
