OAKLAND COUNTY, MI – Two people are dead and two were taken to the hospital with serious injuries after a crash in Metro Detroit. Troopers from the Michigan State Police are responding to the crash, which occurred on westbound I-696 near Drake Road in Oakland County at 10:15 a.m. on Thursday. The crash involves a semi-truck, according to WDIV-TV in Detroit. I-696 is closed at Orchard Lake Road while troopers investigate, police said. Traffic is being ramped off onto I-275, but motorists should avoid the area “for the next several hours,” police said.

ST. CLAIR COUNTY -- A head-on crash caused by a wrong-way driver on I-94 left both drivers deceased and a child critically injured Monday afternoon in St. Clair County, police said. The crash happened at approximately 2:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3, on I-94 near Meldrum Road in Casco Township, southwest of Port Huron. The child was in the Yukon and was transported to a local hospital then later transferred to a children’s hospital for treatment of critical injuries. The crash remains under investigation, police said. The Michigan State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit, Richmond Fire Department, Richmond-Lennox EMS, and St. Clair Sheriff’s Office all responded to the incident.
