String of lights in Metro Detroit sky not aliens -- just SpaceX satellites

The string of lights many Metro Detroit residents saw in the sky on Sunday was not an alien invasion -- it was just satellites passing over the area.

We got dozens of reports from viewers (which we appreciate!) about the lights in the sky. And given what happened earlier in the day, when an identified object was downed over Lake Huron, it was definitely curious timing.

But this was unrelated -- just a weird coincidence. The SpaceX Starlink satellites have passed over the area before, and they probably will again in the future.

Starlink provides internet access coverage to dozens of countries. They were launched in 2019. They include, globally, 3,580 small satellites in low orbit.
