Bullet from Detroit gunfight enters home, hits sleeping 8-year-old boy

Child hospitalized Friday morning

DETROIT – An 8-year-old boy was struck by a bullet early Friday morning while sleeping in his bed in his Detroit home.

At about 4:14 a.m. on July 7, people in two different cars were shooting at each other on Eliot Street, near the intersection of Mack Avenue and I-75, Detroit police said. One of the bullets from the shootout entered the boy’s bedroom, striking the sleeping boy.

The child was taken to the hospital, where he was initially listed in temporary serious condition. Officials said his condition improved Friday morning.

Few details have been released at this time. Police continue to investigate.
