2 charged with murder, child abuse, torture in death of 7-year-old boy on Detroit’s east side

Boy found with multiple injuries

DETROIT – The mother of a 7-year-old boy and her boyfriend are facing murder charges in connection with the child’s death.

23-year-old Alisha Renee Hollamon and 21-year-old Avion Traylor were charged Wednesday, Oct. 25, with felony murder, first-degree child abuse and torture.

The charges stem from an incident that happened Sunday, Oct. 22, just after midnight. According to authorities, police were dispatched to a home located near the intersection of Hurlbut Street and Mack Avenue on reports of child abuse. Police said they found the 7-year-old boy with scars and abrasions on his face, back and chest. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

His cause of death was listed as multiple blunt force trauma, which caused internal bleeding. The abuse reportedly continued after his death.

“He has bruises and marks in the shape of something semi-circular. He has an anal tear and burn marks that were made post-mortem, meaning after he died,” said Assistant Prosecutor Tina Ripley. “There are just simply no words to describe how absolutely brutalized Deshaun was based on the facts and the evidence that we have.”

Authorities believe Hollamon and Traylor physically abused the boy, causing fatal injuries.

“The injuries that caused his death were within a day, but his body shows marks and scars from prolonged abuse,” Ripley said.

The judge said the couple are a danger to the community and were given no bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
