The last time Local 4 was in the area, there was a massive power outage. Now, they’re celebrating their 40th anniversary.

“It’s definitely been an amazing Christmas season this year to make up for those losses,” said owner John Goci.

Goci said over the past four decades, Heritage Bakery has weathered its fair share of storms.

“It was a tough time for us,” Goci recalled. “We lost power for four or five days and had to discard everything.”

Established in 1983, the bakery at Five Mile and Newburgh roads has become a beloved Livonia institution.

“There’s a lot of adults that come in here and remember coming with their grandparents,” Goci said.

Known for its pastries, breads and cakes, some come from as far away as Ann Arbor.

“Everything is still made by hand the old-fashioned way,” Goci said. “It’s labor intensive.”

In honor of reaching the 40-year milestone, Heritage Bakery is hosting a week-long celebration: glazed donuts for just $0.40 through the end of the year.

“Just make the classics, don’t reinvent the wheel,” Goci said. “We make amazing donuts, cakes -- we give people what they want.”
