Suspect in deadly shooting at Canton Township hotel injured in hit and run, arrested at hospital

19-year-old shot, killed at Canton Township hotel

CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A man accused of shooting and killing a 19-year-old girl at a Canton Township hotel was arrested at a hospital after he was injured in a hit-and-run crash.

Canton Township police are investigating after a teen girl was shot and killed at the Comfort Suites on Haggerty Road. The teen was working at the front desk of the hotel when she was shot at 9:23 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16.

Police said the 19-year-old and the gunman had been in a long term relationship, but had broken up shortly before she was shot and killed.

At 10:10 p.m., a 23-year-old man suspected in the shooting was running across the southbound I-275 exit to Ford Road when he was struck by two cars. Michigan State Police said he was first struck by the mirror of a car and the driver of the first car did stop.

He was then struck by a second car, but that driver did not stop. He was transported to a hospital in the area and listed as in critical condition. He has been placed under arrested.

Police are investigating both the hit-and-run crash and the deadly shooting. Canton Township police said there is no threat to public safety.
