‘Early voting is here’: More than 18K people turn out to vote early in Michigan

Early voting ends on Feb. 25. The primary election is Feb. 27

The Michigan Secretary of State says more than 18,000 people across the state have turned out to vote early in person since Saturday.

Voters passed Proposal 2 in 2023, providing nine days of early in-person voting before an election.

The process has been smooth in Canton Township, which has two dedicated early-voting precincts.

“Most Michigan voters are not familiar with it, and we need to close the gap and make sure every voter in Michigan knows early voting is here and it’s viable,” said Township Clerk Michael Siegrist.

Absentee ballots, on the other hand, continue to be popular. Per the Secretary of State, 765,000 absentee ballots have been returned out of the 1.3 million requested.

Early voting ends on Feb. 25. The primary election is Feb. 27.
