Report: Detroit police board neglected investigation of numerous citizen complaints

Report also lists host of recommendations for the board moving forward

DETROIT – A report released by the city’s inspector general says the Detroit Board of Police Commissioners dismissed hundreds of citizen complaints without even investigating them.

It also lists a host of recommendations for the board moving forward.

The report released occurred on Thursday (Feb. 29).

“It is disappointing that the OIG is making many of the same recommendations we have previously made in the past years based on our prior investigations. Had BOPC considered and made the recommended changes from the previous years, there might not have been an abuse of authority of this magnitude.”
