Detroit man charged in kidnapping, sexual assault of young girl

Mother reported child missing to Detroit public school officials

Cedric Jackson (Detroit Police Department)

DETROIT – A Detroit man has been charged with the kidnapping and sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl.

Wayne County prosecutors have charged Cedric Jackson, 59, with first-degree criminal sexual conduct (victim under 13-17), kidnapping, and unlawful imprisonment.

Prosecutors said at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, Jackson lured the girl into his house in the 15700 block of Braille Street in Detroit. He kidnapped her and sexually assaulted her. After the assault, he released her from his house. She was taken to a hospital.

When the girl did not return home after school her mother reported her missing to Detroit public school officials. Information from the school led to Detroit police school police officers taking Jackson into custody and calling the Detroit Police Department to investigate.

“Predators are very good at what they do -- especially sexual predators. The alleged actions of this defendant targeted a 10-year-old girl. It is difficult to understand that there are those who would sexual assault victims who are 10, and even younger. No matter how long we do this work, it gets us in the gut every time,” Prosecutor Kym Worthy said.

Jackson was arraigned on Saturday, April 20, 2024, in 36th District Court. He was remanded to jail.
