Garages R Us owner sentenced to prison for scamming Metro Detroit customers

Walled Lake garage contractor sentenced to up to 20 years in prison

WALLED LAKE, Mich. – A Walled Lake garage contractor was sentenced to up to 20 years in prison for scamming homeowners out of tens of thousands of dollars.

In February, Artemio ‘Temo’ Sessions, 56, of Walled Lake, was convicted by a jury of false pretenses and conducting a criminal enterprise. On Tuesday, April 23, 2024, he was sentenced to 40 months to 20 years in prison for repeatedly scamming homeowners out of tens of thousands of dollars while promising to build garages for them.

Prosecutors said Sessions used his business, Garages R Us, to defraud people out of tens of thousands of dollars for contracted jobs to build or repair garages. He scammed people in Pontiac, Westland, Rochester Hills, Mt. Clemens, Redford, and Saline. He contracted with people, took their money, and then made excuses for why he hadn’t started or couldn’t finish the work. He would eventually stop returning their calls or messages.

“Michigan consumers want the professionals they contract with to be reputable, skilled tradesmen, not rampant scammers,” Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said. “Sessions ripped off unsuspecting customers for tens of thousands of dollars, and today’s sentence will put an end to his criminal scheming. When in the market for construction or home repairs, I encourage all Michigan residents to research the contractors they consider.  My office will continue to hold accountable those who criminally fail to deliver and simply run off with their customers’ hard-earned money.”
