The woman and her family were standing outside their vehicle, observing the races, according to WOOD-TV.

A Jeep CJ that was racing lost control and collided with the family’s vehicle. The woman managed to push her 2-year-old daughter out of harm’s way, but she herself was struck by the vehicle.

Despite efforts from bystanders and first responders to save her, she succumbed to her injuries. The woman was identified as 33-year-old Kadie L. Price from Pierson, according to WOOD-TV.

Deputies noted that Price likely saved her daughter “from serious injury or worse.”

Silver Lake State Park sits along Lake Michigan, and features the only sand dune riding opportunity east of the Mississippi River.
