Wayne County residents asked to weigh in on FEMA flood maps
Flooding in Metro Detroit on Aug. 24, 2023. (WDIV)MELVINDALE, Mich. – Most homeowner’s insurance policies do not cover flooding.
Because of that fact, FEMA is asking for input on its updated Flood Insurance Rate Map and Preliminary Flood Risk Information.
Both can now be viewed by residents and business owners in Wayne County.
FEMA is encouraging homeowners to learn about local flood risks and potential future flood insurance requirements.
There’s a 90 day window where you can identify any concerns or questions.
That appeal period started around July 10th.
Appeals must include technical information, such as hydraulic or hydrologic data, to support the claim.
Appeals cannot be based on the effects of proposed projects or projects started after the study is in progress.
