The staff and volunteers with DRAW, or Disaster Relief at Work, are assembling buckets of cleaning supplies and other critical items. Those items will be distributed across communities facing damage from the strong winds and heavy rain expected to come when Hurricane Milton makes landfall.
Members from DRAW recently returned to Michigan, after delivering a truckload of disaster relief items to areas across Florida and North Carolina that were damaged by Hurricane Helene.
The nonprofit has issued a call for volunteers this week. It described the need for volunteers as “huge” and they’re in need of “all hands on deck” at its headquarters. The group said it needed help unloading trucks of donations, sorting, preparing inventory, and building buckets of items, as part of its response to Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton.
DRAW said Thursday morning that an overwhelming amount of volunteers have already signed up to help. Take a look at the following locations where volunteers will be working:
Thursday, 6:30p-8:00p
1556 N Telegraph Dr, Pontiac 48340
Unloading truck of donations, sort and inventory
Saturday, 9:30a-noon
3549 Airport Rd, suite 107, Waterford
Bucket building and loading 2 trucks
Disaster Relief at Work has been operating since 2012. The nonprofit responds to an average of ten major disasters per year. To learn more about DRAW and its work click here.
