Detroit man charged in human trafficking of missing 17-year-old girl

The Trafficking and Abduction Group received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children

Robert Dante Champion, a 32-year-old man from Detroit, has been charged with the human trafficking of a missing 17-year-old girl.

Police said the Trafficking and Abduction Group (TAG) received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children of an unknown minor female who was being sex trafficked around Metro Detroit on March 31, 2025.

Detectives said they’ve identified the girl as a 17-year-old endangered missing from Detroit.

Further investigation showed multiple commercial sex ads posted for her online.

Detectives watched a video the 17-year-old had posted online and determined she had been in the city of Southfield.

On April 10, detectives said they were able to locate the girl in the basement of an apartment complex in Troy with two unrelated individuals, one of whom was on probation and was in possession of a firearm.

The child was turned over to her family.

The investigation was handed over to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

The following charges were authorized:

  • Human trafficking of a minor commercial sexual activity
  • Accepting earnings from prostitution
  • Transporting a person for the purpose of prostitution
  • Possession of child sexually abusive material

The 32-year-old man was arraigned in the 46th District Court and received a bond of $500,000 cash surety.

His next court date is June 2.
