LIVONIA, Mich. – A 31-year-old man was hospitalized Friday after being shot by Livonia police.

It happened just after 2 p.m. Friday, June 6, outside a strip mall near Five Mile and Middlebelt roads.

According to authorities, police received a 911 call regarding a man acting erratically with a gun at 15080 Middlebelt Road.

Officials said the man produced a pistol, pointed it at the officer, and did not follow lawful orders.

A Livonia police officer fired his gun, striking the man.

The suspect, who has not been publicly identified beyond his age and that he is from Livonia, has been taken to a hospital for treatment.

The status of his injuries is unknown.

The police officer was uninjured. Further details were not revealed at the time.

This is the second time this week that an officer shot someone, as a 41-year-old man was killed in Shelby Township.
